Nikon D1 - Born for Olympic games

From its appearance, Nikon D1 basically followed the contemporary design ideas of film DSLR F5. DSLR cameras introduced by various vendors during that period were basically the improved version from contemporary film SLR cameras. The back of D1 is equipped with a LCD screen, 2.0 inches and with 11.4 million effective pixel, which makes it easy to put pictures back.
The released price was $ 5,580, it is really sky--high in today. However, at that time, a DSLR would cost more than ten thousand of dollars, $ 5,580 was really favorable. Besides, Nikon D1 was just released one year before 2000 Sydney Summer Olympic Games, with so attractive price, many reporters of Olympics were equipped with this epoch-making camera.

Perhaps people will ask what about Canon at that time? Canon had introduced two types of DSLR cameras D2000 and D6000.( at earlier times letter “D” was put in front of numbers) D2000 has only 2 million pixels, while D6000 is equipped with a 6-megapixel CCD sensor. In fact, the real flagship Canon DSLR 1D was launched two years in December 2001.

The real beginning of competition of Canon Nikon: 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City
The first real Canon flagship-level DSRL camera 1D was officially introduced on the eve of 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, two year after the launch of Nikon D1. The competition that have been lasting sixty years between Canon and Nikon acquired continuation in digital era  Nikon refused to show its weakness that upgraded D1, they were D1X and D1H. D1X was the version with high pixel, D1H was designed for news, sports with fast and high ISO performance.
